This game takes players on a journey through the city of angels during the late hours of the night. No stopping for sleep! Midnight Club Los Angeles was first announced at the 2007 Spike Video Game Awards where it won Best Overall Appeal and Best Online Multiplayer Functionality awards. It was also awarded Best Audio for Nintendo DS during the 2009 Golden Joystick Awards (GDJA). Midnight Club: L.A. Remix and Midnight Club: Los Angeles Remix were both finalists for the GDJA 2008 award for Best Racing Game and the 2008 GDJA for Best Racing Series. The game received "favorable" reviews according to video game review aggregator Metacritic (80/100) and GameRankings (76.69%). The DS version received an average score of 80% from "Game Informer", whereas the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii versions received scores of 78%, 77% and 76% respectively. The game was met with generally positive reception. Nintendo Life's Chris Scullion gave the game a positive review, awarding it 9/10 and calling it "a graphical tour de force. The game also won some awards, including GDC 2008 Best Multiplayer Game for the Wii. The DS version was reviewed by IGN who rated it 7.5/10, stating that though tough to play with only one DS stylus, you will like "the variety of cars and music" it offers. IGN also praised Rockstar's use of story telling in the game where you get missions to complete; however criticising the story itself saying that it is more of an excuse than a proper storyline. "Midnight Club: L.A. Remix" was criticized for the repetitive gameplay and lackluster cars and races featured in the game. IGN gave the Wii version a score of 8 out of 10, praising such features as "the beefier, more detailed cars with all new graphics", "even more music", and "a brand new Gameplay mode".
